Dragonette: Classic Marionette Puppet
Not quite dragon. Not quite anything else. Entirely unforgettable.
The Dragonette was born from a creative challenge: how do you string a four-legged beast before you've mastered the technique? The answer turned out to be delightfully unexpected—go humanoid instead.
What emerged wasn't the traditional dragon people might expect, but something far more intriguing: a lizard-like creature that sparks recognition in curious ways. Some see echoes of Alf from the classic 80s sitcom. Others catch glimpses of the anarchic Fireys from Jim Henson's Labyrinth—a comparison I eventually embraced as a working title. Either way, the Dragonette carved out its own identity as a colourful, quirky manifestation of creative experimentation.
A canvas for colour and character
Each Dragonette is handcrafted with:
- Hand-sculpted clay head, hands, and feet with expressive detailing
- Humanoid form with lizard-like features and personality
- Vibrant textile experimentation—bold colours and playful fabric choices
- Professional stringing for responsive, characterful movement
- Unique presence that defies easy categorization
Where happy accidents become art
The Dragonette proves that sometimes the most memorable creations come from technical limitations turned into creative opportunities. It's a marionette that invites interpretation, sparks nostalgia, and celebrates the quirky detours that make handcrafted work so wonderfully human.
Not quite what you expected. Exactly what you didn't know you needed.
