Maidskin: Gender-Shifting Harlequin of the Karnival
Jake or jilly, Maidskin often appears to be both, switching between genders as he plays harlequin to the performative needs of the Karnival of Night and Day.
Maidskin's Story
Jake or jilly, Maidskin often appears to be both, switching between genders as he plays harlequin to the performative needs of the Karnival of Night and Day. The black greasepaint he wears across his lower face tells the Land he is a mute, making him an excellent kompanion to the blind and deaf sisters, Wilt and Mouche, though whatever the three of them learnt of the kult they are fleeing is nothing any of them will talk of.
The Land of Odd: A World of Wonder
The Land of Odd is a mystical experience in world-building! Meet the Oddlings, a deliberate tribute to the humble Podlings developed by Brian Froud for "The Dark Crystal". Normally a grassroots clan dressed generically in the umbers and ochres of the earth, our redeveloped Oddlings embrace a much wider palette of colour and textiles in their costuming and adopt a wide range of vibrant skin tones quite at odds with the earthy hues of their originators. Much of our collected jewellery and specialty off-cuts have found a home here, lending every one its own unique individuality.
Premium Australian Craftsmanship
Each Oddling marionette is meticulously handmade in Australia by The Squeaking Tribe, featuring hand-sculpted details, carefully selected fabrics and embellishments, and professionally strung controls for expressive, lifelike movement.
