Bloody Mary is an enduring urban legend inspired by the ruthless English Queen and rumoured to rise from her hellish limbo in the spirit world when her name is chanted three times into a mirror. She also makes for a particularly gruesome puppet and a nice excuse for a marionette artist to get a little bloody to. Not the best choice for a five-year old birthday, perhaps, but she’ll no doubt evoke her own sinister spell on the right horror fan with a penchant for urban legends and twisted aesthetics. Can you say “Bloody Mary… Bloody Mary… Bloody Ma-“

Halloween Horror Show: Frightening can be fun!

It’s no surprise that many people find marionettes creepy or scary, no matter how cute you try to make them. And so it is with no small relish that I find myself indulging the darker side of story and my own fascination with the macabre in creating a range of puppets to celebrate the shadows and the sinister. Here, horror icons from the silver screen rub shoulders with other things of nightmare in a grand monster mash of ghoulish celebration. Enter if you dare – here there be monsters!
