Day of the Dead Couple – Señor & Señorita Marionettes

Description

The Day of the Dead – The Mexican festival of Dia de los Muertos is a celebration honouring the dead which has found a strong contemporary aesthetic in the West over recent years. Popularised in animated movies such as “The Book of Life” and “Coco”, the colour and pattern of the traditional artefacts are becoming a common sight among our Costume Culture and tattooed inkwork. Originally designed in 2012 as boutique merch for Australian singer/songwriter Kasey Chambers, our DOTD Mariachis and Senoritas enjoy a range of colour and textile as diverse as the festival which inspired them. Indeed, the Mariachis wear hats specifically designed and made for us in Mexico to maintain an authenticity they would otherwise lack. The Senoritas themselves sport a colourful array of flowers, lace and jewellery that would make Frida Kahlo swoon! Collections: When one marionette just won’t do! Casting your world one puppet at a time can seem a long and laborious process for some. Stories can require a villain as much as a hero and all manner of incidental characters in between. Here we have created sets collected specifically from the folklore which gave them life or partnered together those who promise the potential for tales to come. On its own, one marionette can be a thing of beauty; in a shared context, however, the opportunities for adventure can grow in whole new directions… Marionette in doll form is approximately 25cm in height or 60cm when strung.
